Emission standards and new measurement cycle from September 2017

In September of this year, a new test procedure for fuel consumption and emission measurement in passenger cars will be introduced. The new procedure, known as the Worldwide Harmonized Light-Duty Verification Test Procedure, or WLTP for short, will initially apply to all new cars on the market from autumn and a year later to all new registrations. The new measurement cycle is intended to provide more realistic information than before and is more dynamic than the NEDC cycle. It is characterized by more acceleration and braking processes than the NEDC cycle and, when it comes to exhaust gas measurements, also includes options and air conditioning, among other things.

Natural gas production until 2026

The tax breaks for natural gas (CNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) should actually expire at the end of 2018. Owners of natural gas and LPG vehicles can now breathe a sigh of relief: The German Bundestag has decided to extend funding for liquid and gaseous natural gas until the end of 2026. LPG is also promoted with a reduced energy tax, but only until the end of 2022. The tax reduction for natural gas (liquid and gaseous) will continue as before until 2024; for the last two years, however, there will be a gradual decrease.
LPG users will have fewer and fewer tax advantages from 2019. Although it will continue to be tax-favored until the end of the funding period, the LPG tax will be adjusted to the normal tax rate. The LPG price is expected to rise by 2,94 cents per year until it reaches its price by 2023.
