Ampera-e - available from autumn 2017

With a view to the German premiere of the Opel Ampera, Opel is now publishing the technical details and suggesting that it will be better suited for everyday use than its competitors. A restricted top speed in favor of a range of up to 380 km, rapid acceleration from 8 to 0 km / h in under 100 seconds and some standard assistants are the additions for improved acceptance. The short ranges were indicated as pointing the way towards the reluctance of electric vehicle drivers.

Battery & range

60 kWh lithium-ion battery; consisting of 288 cells, arranged in eight modules of 30 and two modules of 24 cells. The entire battery pack is an integral part of the underbody, which saves space and at the same time guarantees safety. At a public 50 kW DC charging station, a range of 150 kilometers can be recharged in just 30 minutes. The battery is guaranteed for up to eight years or 160.000 kilometers. With a fully charged battery, there is a maximum possible range of 520 kilometers in the NEDC cycle. And even after measurements - approximating to the speed profile (shortened test procedure) defined according to the WLTP driving cycle (Worldwide Harmonized Light-Duty Vehicles Test Procedure) - the Opel Ampera-e impresses: Based on this development test, the engineers estimate the combined WLTP range 380 kilometers. Naturally, the range of electric vehicles differs in everyday use, as it depends on personal driving style and external factors.

Power & torque

The maximum torque of 360 Newton meters, which is already available from a standstill, ensures the electrifying temperament of the Opel Stromer Ampera-e. The power of the electric motor corresponds to 150 kW / 204 PS. The Opel Ampera-e accelerates from zero to 50 km / h in a sports car time of just 3,2 seconds, while the sprint to 100 km / h takes just 7,3 seconds. The intermediate sprint when overtaking from 80 to 120 km / h succeeds in just 4,5 seconds thanks to its superior pulling power. The maximum speed is limited to 150 km / h in favor of the range.

Comfort & Security

The new Ampera-e also continues Opel's strategy of making technologies from the luxury class available to a wide range of buyers at affordable prices. And so the Stromer from Rüsselsheim has a large number of high-tech assistance systems:
Automatic parking assistant: It finds suitable parking spaces in the longitudinal or transverse direction and automatically steers the Ampera-e into them, the driver only has to operate the pedals. The parking assistant scans free spaces between vehicles parked at the same time as in supermarket parking lots. The clever assistant also looks for gaps between cars parked one behind the other along the course of the road. The driver can keep an eye on every maneuver via the 130-degree reversing camera.
Safety assistants: A whole range of systems ensures that the Opel Ampera-e is always at a sufficient distance from the vehicle in front, that it does not leave its lane unintentionally, that no other road users are overlooked, and even supports the driver up to the point of emergency braking. The total number of assistants takes the horror away from hectic traffic in the urban rush hour. In detail:
Distance display and front collision warning with warning tone as well as additional warning via LEDs in the windshield plus automatic city emergency braking - against rear-end collisions, always enough distance from the vehicle in front.
Lane Keeping Assist - warns you if you unintentionally leave your lane (between 60 and 150 km / h). Lane Keeping Assist also gently counteracts this, but does not steer the vehicle continuously.
Reversing camera and radar-based reversing assistant for cross traffic - for safe reversing out of parking spaces.
High beam and traffic sign assistant - so that you always have everything in view.
Radar-based lane change assistant and blind spot warning - so that nothing and nobody is overlooked.
Active pedestrian warning and front collision warning with pedestrian detection plus automatic emergency braking - for pedestrian protection. The warning tone was developed to draw the attention of distracted or blind pedestrians to the quiet electric car and is active up to 30 km / h.

Infotainment & networking

The electric car from Opel fits perfectly into our digital age: essential operation takes place via an individually configurable 10,2-inch color monitor in the style of a tablet. All information about the vehicle or the external conditions can be displayed here. With the IntelliLink-e infotainment system, suitable smartphones can be integrated via Apple CarPlay ™ and Android Auto ™. If these are not connected by cable, they can still be charged purely inductively (wireless charging). Features such as voice control, USB and Bluetooth interfaces are of course available. Audiophile Ampera-e owners can also order the Bose sound system with subwoofer - a special treat in the whisper-quiet Stromer.
Finally, IntelliLink-e merges with the personal assistant Opel OnStar to create a complete range of services. OnStar offers fast 4G / LTE internet connection and a WLAN hotspot so that all passengers in the Ampera-e are optimally networked with their mobile devices. In addition, Opel OnStar uses a direct selection button to set up a connection to a personal advisor who can reserve hotel rooms while driving (booking service) and help to find the next available charging station or simply a free parking space.
The digital package is rounded off by the newly developed myOpelApp, with which Ampera-e owners can keep control of their car remotely - as is the case with all Opel models with Opel OnStar on board. With the app, the advantages of an electric car can be fully exploited: Regardless of whether it is parked at the charging station or without a power connection, the Ampera-e can be preheated or cooled down remotely via the app. Passengers get into a perfectly air-conditioned car in both summer and winter. In addition, in conjunction with Apple CarPlay ™ and Android Auto ™, the route can be programmed so that it passes charging stations - should the route exceed the existing range.

The base price and the pre-orders

The base price is estimated at 39.330 euros. There will be a possibility to reserve in advance and sales will then initially take place via 40 selected dealers in autumn.

At the moment, the environmental bonus can still be claimed at the base price. This reduces the customer price to 34.950 euros.

Opel explains the price breakdown in

“The corresponding list price for the Ampera-e is 39.330 euros. The stated amount of 34.950 euros results after deducting the customer benefit from the environmental bonus of 4.380 euros. The customer benefit from the environmental bonus consists of a subsidy of 2.000 euros granted by the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA) and a bonus of 2.000 euros granted by Opel as a deduction from the list price and the associated 380 euros lower VAT amount. The BAFA share is only paid out after a positive response to the application submitted by the buyer. The environmental bonus ends when the funds provided are exhausted, no later than June 30.06.2019, XNUMX. There is no legal claim. You can find more information at www.bafa.de. "
