According to the press release, the BMW Group and Daimler AG are planning the next steps for their joint mobility company after approval by the competition authorities. The basis for this is the approval of the US competition authority, which has been available since Tuesday, December 18, 2018. All of the cartel authorities involved have given the go-ahead for the new joint venture, which is owned equally by the BMW Group and Daimler AG.
The focus of the joint venture is on the personal freedom of customers in urban mobility. With the vision of the mobility of the future, a new mobility offer is being created that should be easily accessible, intuitive and tailored to the needs of the user. On their urban journey, customers will move in a seamlessly networked, sustainable ecosystem that combines car sharing, ride hailing, parking, charging and multimodality from a single source and is available with just a few taps of the finger. The aim is to create the most attractive and comprehensive mobility solution for a better life in a networked world.
In principle, the previously used car sharing services Car2Go and DriveNow are combined and networked with various external service providers to form a comprehensive solution package that is then to be operated via an app. In addition to direct car sharing, mobility services such as rental bikes, taxis or local transport will be available through a service provider. In addition, cashless parking and charging of the vehicle will also be simplified in the future.
According to official press releases, the joint venture will include the following activities and services:
Multimodal and on-demand mobility with moovel and ReachNow
The well over six million users benefit from the intelligent and seamless networking of various mobility offers such as car sharing, rental bikes, taxis and local transport - including booking and payment. In addition, the multimodal platform offers solutions for the needs of urban individual transport, including Car as a Service.
Car sharing with Car2Go and DriveNow
Car2Go and DriveNow will have a total of 20.000 vehicles in 30 international metropolises. CarSharing makes it possible to increase the utilization of vehicles and thus contribute to reducing the total number of vehicles in cities. More than four million customers are already using these CarSharing offers. Ride-hailing with mytaxi, Chauffeur Privé, Clever Taxi and Beat:
15,9 million customers and more than 250.000 drivers already use the services of mytaxi, Chauffeur Privé, Clever Taxi (all Europe) and Beat (South America). This makes Intelligent Apps GmbH one of the leading ridehailing providers in Europe and South America. Innovative offers such as mytaximatch, in which unknown passengers share a taxi at the touch of a finger, also make an important contribution to reducing inner-city traffic.
Parking with ParkNow and Parkmobile Group / Parkmobile LLC
Ticket and cashless parking on the roadside or reserving and paying for parking spaces in multi-storey car parks. Parkmobile reaches a total of more than 27 million customers in Europe and North America and offers digital parking solutions in more than 1.100 cities. The innovative, digital parking service reduces the time people spend looking for a parking space and thus significantly reduces the volume of traffic. After all, traffic looking for a parking space now accounts for around 30% of city traffic.
Charging with ChargeNow and Digital Charging Solutions
Easy access (finding, charging, paying) to the world's largest network of public charging stations. Together with privileged parking spaces in cities, this supports the expansion of electromobility. It enables people to more easily integrate electromobility into their mobility needs.
Summary
At least since the economic miracle, having one's own car has been a status symbol for one's own status quo. After the dawn of the new digital century with increasing flexibility of road users and completely new attitudes towards mobility, holistic solutions are required in the coming years. The smartphone and the digital booking options give new freedom.
The consolidation of various services in the field of mobility into one general provider is intended to bring the strengths of the two big players BMW and Daimler far forward in the sector of digital mobility providers. You can look forward to the reactions of the competitors.
