E-Up! Dates - model year 2020

Volkswagen is with the e-up! on the move with the zeitgeist: trendy, two-tone paintwork such as “teal blue” with a black roof or red with a white roof give it a high recognition value. The interior is also painted in the same color throughout - a good approach in the fight against the trend of viewing it as a purely commercial vehicle. In terms of price, the city car, equipped with a 60 kW (82 PS) electric motor and a 32,3 kWh battery, starts at a list price of 23.000 euros.

The quick charging connection is standard and the battery can then be charged up to 80 percent in just over half an hour. With the environmental bonus, another 6.000 euros less can soon be taken into account. And as standard it offers a number of technical features, for example the City Emergency Brake Assist to protect passers-by, the acoustic parking aids in the rear of the vehicle and a windscreen with heat-insulating glass. We take a look at the electric Volkswagen upgrade.

e-up! with better value for money

The purchase decisions for the electric car improve with every increase in range. Even commuters prefer to top up once a week. And so with the installation of the lithium-ion batteries under the front seats and the rear bench seat, the range has increased by around 100 kilometers with a weight increase of 15 kg compared to the predecessor. With a range of 260 kilometers under optimal conditions, for example in summer, a few more tasks can be carried out per charging process.

Short - small - compact

With the new pricing policy, the e-up! already made many new friends. The waiting times for new cars are currently around half a year. With a torque of 212 Nm, the city runabout easily swims with the traffic. The acceleration of 11,9 seconds from zero to 100 km / h is quick for the Stromer. The maximum speed in the test was a good 140 km / h, after which it is limited. The e-up! is the companion for the big city and for short-haul operation par excellence.

More equipment

Not only the range has increased significantly. In addition to the equipment, there is also a docking station for the smartphone in the cockpit above the center console. It can then be used directly as an infotainment system. The “maps + more” app then takes on the important navigation tasks. The “We Connect” app can optionally control the charging process. During the charging process, the app also controls the heating and air conditioning.

assistance systems

There is light and shadow in the assistance systems. With the massive price reduction compared to the previous model, the usual assistance systems such as ABS, EPS and hill start assist are still provided as standard. There is not yet a city emergency brake assistant like in the higher-quality models like the VW Polo, it will probably only be part of the standard equipment in the future.

Whoever has the e-up! want to equip even better, should take a look at the compact price list. We also noticed a few recommendations for the e-up, which we are happy to pass on. A good argument for reselling is the CCS charging socket for 625 euros. The parking aid including the reversing camera "Rear View" costs 495 euros. The question remains whether looking over the shoulder with the compact dimensions combined with the acoustic parking aids is not completely sufficient. The winter package including seat, windscreen and exterior mirror heating is available for an extra charge of 415 euros. This is more interesting for reselling.

The greatly improved price-performance ratio coupled with attractive environmental bonus offers has caused the number of pre-orders to rise sharply. With its range, it is ideal as an ideal second car or commuter or city runabout for short distances. The competition in-house are the technical brothers Skoda CITIGOe iV and the Seat Mii electric.
