According to its own information, Mercedes-Benz intends to produce the first series models of the new EQ product brand in Bremen. The chairman of the board, Dieter Zetsche, once again emphasizes the Bremen production location. The production model should obviously be based on the EQ show car and obviously achieve a range of up to 500 km. The product brand EQ is an elementary component of the corporate strategy for the mobility of the future, which is summarized under the term CASE. The four letters stand for the strategic pillars of networking (Connected), autonomous driving (Autonomous), flexible use (Shared & Services) and electric drives (Electric), which consistently drives the company forward and connects intelligently.

According to a press release, Mercedes-Benz Cars plans to have more than ten fully electric vehicles on the market by 2025. The new electric vehicles can be built within the existing global production network with locations on four continents. “In production, we are working flat out on the implementation of our electric offensive. In this context, we are examining the production of electric vehicles at all Mercedes-Benz Cars locations. We have already started intensive preparations in Bremen.

"The fact that we are building the first EQ vehicle at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Bremen is an enormous vote of confidence and a real honor for our location," says Peter Theurer, who is responsible for the Mercedes-Benz plant in Bremen. “As the lead plant for the C-Class and the GLC, we have repeatedly demonstrated our start-up strength, our flexibility and our technical know-how in recent years. Now we are taking another decisive step towards the mobility of the future and are also expanding our diversity in the area of drives. "

According to the company, the batteries are to be developed by the wholly owned Daimler subsidiary ACCUMOTIVE and built in Kamenz. One of the most modern battery factories in Europe is to be built at the Kamenz location; production is to be expanded as part of the CASE corporate strategy with an investment of around 500 million euros.

About CASE (press information from Mercedes-Benz AG)

CASE - these letters shape the future of Mercedes Benz Cars. They stand for the strategic pillars of networking (Connected), autonomous driving (Autonomous), flexible use (Shared & Services) and electric drives (Electric), which the company intelligently connects with one another. Mercedes Benz Cars is already playing a leading role in all four areas. The focus of all networking activities is the digital Mercedes me brand, which gives customers access to a comprehensive and personalized range of services via app, website or directly in the car. On the way to autonomous driving, Mercedes Benz has been driving development forward intensively for years and is always setting new standards. For this, the Mercedes engineers use what is known as sensor fusion. The data from different sensors such as cameras, ultrasound and radar are intelligently linked and evaluated. The inventor of the automobile is also a pioneer with car2go when it comes to sharing. With around two million users, the company is the world's largest provider of free-floating car sharing. When it comes to electrifying the drivetrain, Mercedes Benz is following a holistic approach and is developing an ecosystem under the EQ brand that, in addition to the vehicle itself, includes a comprehensive range of everything to do with electromobility. This ranges from intelligent services to energy storage for private and commercial customers and charging technologies such as inductive charging to sustainable recycling. In order to drive the further development of all four pillars equally, the activities are bundled in an independent organizational unit.
