Hyundai Nexo 2018 with fuel cell

The South Korean automobile manufacturer started developing hydrogen-powered fuel cell vehicles as early as the beginning of 1998. In 2000, Hyundai presented the Santa FE FCEV as a development vehicle, followed in 2004 by the Tucson FCEV as a development vehicle - both cars were extensively tried and tested. A big step in the series production of fuel cell vehicles took place in 2006, when Hyundai developed its own fuel cells ready for the market. The breakthrough came with the Hyundai ix35, which was presented for the first time in 2010 and celebrated its market launch in 2013 as the world's first fuel cell series vehicle.

The second series generation of a fuel cell vehicle from Hyundai will go on sale from mid-2018. The successor to the Hyundai ix35 has been further developed on the basis of the data obtained from its predecessor in terms of efficiency, performance, durability and tank volume. Hyundai presented the name and the final shape of the next generation of the fuel cell SUV at the CES (Consumer Electronic Shows) in early 2018.
The Hyundai Nexo is almost ready for series production in terms of body design and technology. In the upcoming vehicle, the fuel cell should be 20 percent lighter and still work 10 percent more efficiently than its predecessor, the ix35 Fuel Cell. The new SUV should have an efficiency of 60 percent, while the predecessor still has 55,3 percent. The previous range of almost 600 km should have grown to 800 km in the next model.

20% increase in performance in the Hyundai Nexo

The manufacturer specifies the engine's output as 120 kW (163 hp) - this corresponds to an increase in output of 20 percent compared to the previous ix35 model. And thanks to the new generation of cold start capabilities, the fuel cell vehicle should now be able to start at temperatures as low as -30 ° C.
Since the design of the Hyundai ix35 Fuel cell is now a bit dusty, the Korean carmaker has broken new ground for its presented fuel cell vehicle. The body design has been given lines inspired by nature and water and, thanks to ventilation slots, has seen an improvement in aerodynamics. The ultra-flat LED headlights are connected with a light band and, in conjunction with the beefy bonnet, give the vehicle a sporty look. For aerodynamic reasons, the D-pillar has a channel on both sides of the vehicle for the airstream to flow through.
The interior is just as futuristic and clearly designed: doors opening in opposite directions, which will probably not be included in the series, invite you into the puristic interior. a two-spoke steering wheel and free-standing screens dominate the interior. According to the manufacturer, an "ultra-modern" environment is to be created through subdued, sophisticated colors, which is supplemented by natural materials with environmentally friendly certification.
The market launch of the Hyundai Nexo will take place in summer 2018, the manufacturer has not yet announced prices.
