This year, the IAA Mobility stands for many premieres in the field of electromobility. This year the global manufacturers are planning a big hit with regard to emission-free electric cars. The presentation of the VW.ID program from Volkswagen points to the future of electric cars at the core brand. The complete conversion of the motor vehicle fleet to electric cars was accelerated several times over the course of the year. There are also ambitious goals for expanding the charging infrastructure in Europe. We continuously report on exciting developments.
### More outdoor dare with the Mini Countryman ###
With the facelift, the Mini SE has received some smart details with regard to operation and digitization. Adventurers and outdoor enthusiasts were also able to test the roof tent special edition from the AUTOHOME brand designed for the MINI Countryman and spend the night on a campsite. The roof tents, made for the first time from recycled materials, are made from bottles collected from the sea and are intended to underline the sustainable character of the Mini Mobile.
### Hydrogen or methanol fuel cell for long distances? ###
The subject of fuel cells for cars is treated negligently. There are a handful of models, a thin network of filling stations and the production, transport and storage of hydrogen continue to be a problem that has not been resolved in the long term. An alternative that has not yet been given much attention is the methanol fuel drive developed by visionary Roland Gumpert, which is ready for small series production. Born in 1944 in Bad Ziegenhals in what is now Poland, he started his career at the Ingolstadt-based automobile manufacturer Audi. With his current company GUMPERT AIWAYS Automobile GmbH, founded in Ingolstadt as a joint venture with the Chinese automobile manufacturer AIWAYS, the super sports car Nathalie has been designed in recent years. It will be interesting to see in which direction the fuel cell will develop.
### Genesis starts sales activities in Germany ###
The Korean premium manufacturer is presenting the Genesis Flexibility Program at the IAA Mobility, an entry into the world of Genesis. The subscription model enables short-term and flexible rental as a trial subscription. At the beginning of summer 2021, Genesis officially entered the European market. Orders for the sedans G80 and G70 as well as the SUVs GV80 and GV70 are now possible, the G70 Shooting Brake will follow soon. The Genesis product range will include three fully electric vehicles in Europe within the first year.
