Jaguar - The cat starts purring

Jaguar signals the entry into electric mobility. Jaguar presents the new I-Pace Concept at the LA Auto Show. Jaguar puts a 4,67 m long and 1,89 m wide electric car on the catwalk in the form of an SUV. With the help of a 50kW direct current connection, the battery should be charged up to 90% within 80 minutes and 120% within 100 minutes according to Jaguar. The market launch is scheduled for 2018.

Technical details

With two electric motors on the front and rear axles, an output of 400 hp is to be achieved. Jaguar thus plays in a league with the EQ models from Mercedes, which have also been announced, as well as the Audi Q6 or the Borgward BX7. The acceleration is specified in 4 seconds from zero to one hundred km / h with a torque of 700 Newton meters.

A new concept

Visually, the windshield is placed much further to the front than on the previous models with the long hood. The cabin will move forward, the space will be more generous and the sporty proportions will come to the fore. The typical cardan shaft tunnel is no longer necessary, and storage compartments between the seats are more generously dimensioned. The windscreen continues over the entire length of the vehicle in the form of a panoramic roof.

Fewer components - more luggage space

The trunk is generously designed with 530 liters of storage space and is supplemented by a 38-liter storage compartment under the front hood. The displays have been redesigned and, according to the manufacturer, complement each other from traditional craftsmanship combined with high-tech elements. There is a 12-inch touchscreen in the center and a smaller 5,5-inch monitor underneath. Jaguar relies on proportioned hand controls and technological solutions for driver support. In the center there is a floating center console that rises towards the instrument panel.

Production planning for 2018

According to preliminary media reports, production is to take place at Magna Steyr in Graz from 2018. These are then likely to be a clear number of items for entry into electromobility. We will report on the further development.
