Kia e-Soul celebrates world premiere

After the Hyundai Kona, the Kia model is also celebrating its world premiere as e-Soul. The technically identical e-Soul relies on the same equipment features with a liquid-cooled lithium-ion polymer battery with a capacity of 64 kWh and the new electric motor with 150 kW / 204 hp. The new model will be produced in Gwangju, Korea.

Combo-2 fast charging port

The torque is specified with 395 Nm. The new e-Soul is significantly more agile than the previous model. The range will probably be over 400 km under optimal conditions. The chassis has been converted to a multi-link rear axle and the driving experience can be varied depending on the selected driving mode. The Comfort, Sport, Eco and Eco + programs can be selected. The regenerative braking system, air conditioning and the possible maximum speed are regulated according to the selection. The standard equipment includes a European fast charging connection (CCS) in the Combo-2 version, so that the car can be charged very quickly according to the available charging connection.

The regenerative braking system, which converts kinetic energy into electrical energy when braking or coasting, and thus charges the battery, can also be set differently using rockers on the steering wheel (four levels). It includes a "Brake and Hold" function, which is also activated via the steering wheel paddles and brakes the e-Soul to a standstill using only recuperation. In addition, the system should also be based on the traffic ahead and make the braking process as energy-efficient as possible. How much the driver is using the battery when using the accelerator pedal can be read on a display (“Smart Eco Pedal Guide”) in the instrument panel.

Kia e-Soul with a new telematics system

Externally, the front and rear bumpers are designed to be emphasized. Another distinctive feature of the new face are the narrow LED headlights. As with its predecessor, the charging port is integrated into the panel, which replaces the radiator grille. The color palette of the Kia Stromer is expanded to include new one- and two-tone paintwork.
Instead of a conventional selector lever, there is a gear selector rotary switch in the cockpit
(Shift by Wire). And the infotainment system includes a 10,25-inch touchscreen,
Smartphone integration and Bluetooth with speech recognition.

The new telematics system UVO is used; it should allow the driver to monitor and control numerous vehicle functions. Among other things, it provides real-time information on charging stations and also offers the option of programming charging. You can also use the “Send2Car” function of the UVO system
Planned routes and stations (POI) directly to the Kia navigation system
Send e-Soul.

The market launch is planned for the first half of 2019, when the official technical data and prices will also be published.
