Maserati enters Formula E with the Gen3

According to Maserati, the Gen3, one of the lightest, fastest and most powerful racing cars in Formula E, will compete in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship from the 2022/2023 season. With the entry of the new electric racing car, Maserati will make a comeback in the formula circus after more than 60 years. The history of the Italian manufacturer, which is closely related to racing, will be expanded to include a further milestone in the next racing season.

The story of the Maserati brothers began in 1926 with their appearance in the “Targa Florio” endurance race in the Sicilian mountains. At that time, Alfieri Maserati won the race in its class. This was followed by further sporting successes. The victory in the Formula 1 World Championship in 1957 with Juan Manuel Fangio at the wheel is still unforgettable.

So now follows the comeback in Formula E as an entry into the electric future of Maserati. For Maserati CEO Davide Grasso, it's clear that the brand's racing legacy is a perfect match with the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, and even given Maserati's history, the brand is eager to put new roots. The plan is to start a new era for the traditional brand in the world's first electric racing series.

Pushing performance limits

The aim is to use the rapid development of world-class motorsport to incorporate the performance, innovation and prestige findings from the racetrack into the development of road vehicles. “We are very proud to be back where we belong as protagonists in the world of racing. We are driven by passion and innovative by nature. We have a long history of world-class excellence in competition and are ready to increase performance in the future, ”said CEO Grasso.

Conclusion

Much tradition is now being put to the test again with the Gen3. As with other newcomers from brand manufacturers in Formula E, it will be interesting to see how the entry into the first Formula E season will go. The name Maserati alone will pull even more motorsport enthusiasts under the spell of the young Formula E.
