After the launch of the new Porsche Taycan electric sports car in September 2019, the sports car manufacturer is introducing the third version of the sports sedan, the Taycan 4S. The latest model is available with two battery sizes and, according to the manufacturer, has an output of up to 390 kW (530 PS) or, with the Performance Battery Plus, up to 420 kW (571 PS). After the two turbo models, the Taycan 4S is the entry point to the model range. A single-tier performance battery with a total capacity of 79,2 kWh is already installed as standard equipment. The two-story variant from the turbo models is available on request. This increases the total capacity to 93,4 kWh.
The performance variants of the Taycan 4S
Output and range vary accordingly: according to the manufacturer, the Taycan 4S has an overboost output of up to 390 kW (530 PS) with the performance battery. Equipped with the Performance Battery Plus, it has an output of up to 420 kW (571 hp). From a standstill, both versions of the Taycan 4S accelerate from zero to 4,0 km / h in 100 seconds. The top speed is also a uniform 250 km / h. The range is up to 407 kilometers with a performance battery and up to 463 kilometers with a performance battery plus (both in accordance with WLTP). The maximum charging power (peak) is 225 kW (performance battery) or 270 kW (performance battery plus).

Prime movers and driving performance
The drive is provided by two permanently excited synchronous machines on the front and rear axles, i.e. all-wheel drive, as well as a two-speed gearbox on the rear axle, the 4S has the main technical highlights of its model brothers in terms of drive architecture. The same applies to the intelligent charge management and the exemplary aerodynamics. With a drag coefficient of 0,22 or more, it makes a decisive contribution to low energy consumption and thus to a relatively long range.

Exterior design
The Taycan appears with a clear, puristic design. From the front it looks particularly wide and flat, with strongly curved fenders. The silhouette is determined by the sporty, sloping roof line. The side area with the strong sculpting is also characteristic. The slim cabin, the retracted C-pillar and the pronounced shoulders of the fenders lead to a strong, brand-typical emphasis on the rear. There are also innovative elements such as the Porsche logo in glass look, which is integrated into the strip of lights at the rear.
To distinguish the Taycan 4S Turbo and Turbo S contribute to the aerodynamically optimized 19-Zoll Taycan S Aero wheels and the red painted brake calipers. The bow lower part with new geometry, the side skirts and the rear diffuser in black provide further visual differentiation. LED headlights including Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS Plus) are standard on board.

Unique interior design with wide screen tape
Clearly structured and with a completely new architecture, the cockpit also marks the start of a new era. The free-standing and curved instrument cluster forms the highest point on the instrument panel. This clearly emphasizes the driver's axis. A central, 10,9-sized infotainment display and another, optional display for the passenger are positively combined to form a black-panel optic.
The Taycan 4S has partial leather upholstery and comfort seats at the front with electric eight-way adjustment as standard.
In the Taycan, Porsche is offering a completely leather-free equipment variant for the first time. Interior spaces made from innovative recycled material underline the sustainability of the electric sports car.

Chassis systems are centrally networked
Porsche uses a centrally networked control system for the chassis of the Taycan. The integrated chassis control Porsche 4D Chassis Control analyzes and synchronizes all suspension systems in real time. The Taycan 4S comes as standard with adaptive air suspension with three-chamber technology including electronic suspension control PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management).
At the front axle, a six-piston fixed caliper brake with internally ventilated cast iron brake discs delays. Their diameter is 360 or 358 millimeters (front / rear axle). Four-piston calipers are used on the rear axle. The calipers are painted red.
According to Porsche, the Taycan 4S can be ordered immediately and will be available in European dealerships in January 2020. In Germany, prices start at 105.607 euros - including VAT and country-specific equipment.
