The SEAT Arona, presented to the general public at the Paris Motor Show, is the Spanish car manufacturer's SUV model. The little brother of the SEAT Ateca thus joins the family of SUV models, but can also score points with cross-over properties such as sportiness and efficiency.
As an entry-level engine, SEAT offers the Arona with a three-cylinder 1.0 TSI with 95 hp (70 kW) and a 5-speed manual transmission. This engine will also be available with 115 hp (85 kW) and a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual clutch transmission. There is also a four-cylinder TSI engine with 150 hp (110 kW) and 6-speed manual transmission and two diesel engines. Interesting: For the 2019 model year, the SEAT Arona will also be available with a 90 hp (66 kW) natural gas engine - the first natural gas engine in the compact crossover class.
Natural gas engine in the SUV class
The Arona TGI has a three-cylinder engine with a capacity of one liter and 66 kW / 90 PS under the bonnet, which can also be driven with gasoline for CNG operation. Three tanks allow a volume of 14 kilograms of natural gas, which according to Seat should be enough for a range of 400 kilometers. An additional 160 kilometers can be covered with petrol. The engine is started in Otto mode at temperatures below minus ten degrees so that the gas injectors are protected. The only difference between the TGI and other Arona versions is the fuel tanks. All equipment variants are available for the TGI.
When it comes to safety, the SEAT Arona scores with many driver assistance and infotainment systems that are also used in other SEAT models. These include the “Front Assist” environment monitoring system with city emergency braking function, mountain driving assistant, drowsiness detection and the “Kessy” keyless locking and starting system. Other functions such as the unparking assistant or the park steering assistant are also optionally available.
A premium sound system with six high-end speakers, a 300 W amplifier and a subwoofer in the trunk will probably make the hearts of music lovers beat faster - the SEAT also offers Apple Car Play, AndroidAuto and MirrorLink.
The exterior design of the SEAT Arona is a success: a distinctive look with hard-wearing bumpers and dark-colored side skirts suggests that the SUV is also suitable for outdoor activities. And the personality of the vehicle continues to prevail in the interior as well. The instruments in the cockpit are consistently geared towards the driver, because all controls are within his reach.
Compared to the brand's bestseller, the SEAT Ibiza, the Arona has more generous proportions. The height of the crossover towers over the Ibiza by a whole 99 mm and thus not only offers greater ground clearance for off-road driving, but also more headroom overall. The trunk is correspondingly larger - with a load volume of 400 liters, a lot can be stowed away. The SEAT Arona will be available in the equipment variants Reference, Style, XCELLENCE and FR as well as in 68 possible color combinations.
