Taycan - the first e-Porsche

Porsche's entry into electromobility will start next year with the “Taycan” model and promises some highlights from the manufacturer. Two permanently excited synchronous motors (PSM) are supposed to accelerate the car to 3,5 km / h within 100 seconds. The NEDC range should be 500 kilometers under optimal conditions. The integrated 800-volt architecture should enable fast charging processes.

Oliver Blume, CEO of Porsche AG, promises according to the press release: “Our new electric athlete is strong and willing to perform; a vehicle that covers long distances with endurance and stands for freedom ”. The name Taycan is intended to mean "lively, young horse" and take up the center of the Porsche coat of arms. While some of the current models still have to stay in the stable, Porsche is already pointing to the current anniversary year and the prospects for the future. 70 years of “Porsche Sports Cars” are being celebrated with a number of campaigns this year. At the same time, Porsche is clearly preparing for the future. This future clearly means: Electromobility.

Conversions and expansions in the main factory in Zuffenhausen

According to Porsche, a new paint shop and its own assembly facility for the Taycan are currently being built at Porsche's main plant in Zuffenhausen, as well as a conveyor bridge for transporting the painted bodies and drive units to final assembly. The existing engine plant is being expanded for the production of electric drives, and the body shop is being expanded. There are also investments in the Weissach development center. The Taycan is expected to create around 1.200 new jobs in Zuffenhausen alone.
