Tesla Model Y leads in new BEV registrations in Sweden

Since July 1, 2018, Sweden has been running its own funding program for cars and light trucks / buses with CO2 emissions of a maximum of 60 g / km. These vehicles receive a climate bonus of 60.000 Swedish kronor (around 5.900 euros / June 2021) when they are newly registered. However, the upper limit of the climate bonus may not exceed 25% of the vehicle's value. For companies that buy an electric vehicle, the bonus may not exceed 35 percent of the difference between the price of a new car and the price of a comparable gasoline or diesel vehicle. The bonus is paid directly to the owner six months after the vehicle is registered, preventing the vehicle from being sold during this period. A special feature is that the bonus for every gram of CO2 above zero, for example in the case of hybrid vehicles, is reduced by 60 kroner up to 833g / km.

The climate bonus will no longer apply in 2023

Some tightening of the bonus-malus system for 2022 was announced in September. Further shifts in the car market can therefore be expected in the coming year. Already in the current year, every fourth newly registered vehicle was rechargeable. The support program for the climate bonus has now expired. Accordingly, the market will be rearranged in 2023 based on the price-performance ratio of BEV vehicles.

In Sweden the manufacturer Volvo naturally has a home bonus. Here are the most popular cars with a climate bonus in 2022.

trends 2023

“In May, 28.490 new cars were bought, an increase of almost eight percent compared to May of the previous year. Almost 62 percent of the month's new registrations were cordless cars. So far, the passenger car market has declined by around five percent compared to the previous year. New registrations of light trucks rose by around 31 percent in May and totaled 3.919, of which 17,5 percent were electric vehicles. Compared to May last year, the number of heavy trucks rose by around 25 percent and buses by around 67 percent." (press release bilsweden)
