The history of the electric motor does not begin in the technologically advanced modern age: the first electric vehicle was presented to the public as early as 1881. Gustave Trouvé equipped his “Trouvé Tricycle” - a three-wheeled, electrically powered vehicle - with 2 electric motors, which obtained their energy from 6 lead-acid batteries. The vehicle reached a top speed of 12 km / h.

June 24, 2018 - Volkswagen's reorientation towards electric drives in the passenger car sector has been given a sporty look: The IDR Pikes Peak is considered to be the forerunner of the new, all-electric ID family. In the USA in Colorado, the legendary hill climb to Pikes Peak, the so-called "Race to the clouds", has been a traditional race that has been held since 1916. The racetrack is 19,99 km long (12,42 miles) and includes exactly 156 curves.
