June 24, 2018 - Volkswagen's reorientation towards electric drives in the passenger car sector has been given a sporty look: The IDR Pikes Peak is considered to be the forerunner of the new, all-electric ID family. In the USA in Colorado, the legendary hill climb to Pikes Peak, the so-called "Race to the clouds", has been a traditional race that has been held since 1916. The racetrack is 19,99 km long (12,42 miles) and includes exactly 156 curves.

Heat pump in an electric car

The principle of the heat pump is basically similar to the system of a refrigerator or an air conditioning system - only in the opposite direction. The history of the electric motor does not begin in the technologically advanced modern age: the first electric vehicle was presented to the public as early as 1881. Gustave Trouvé equipped his “Trouvé Tricycle” - a three-wheeled, electrically powered vehicle - with 2 electric motors, which obtained their energy from 6 lead-acid batteries. The vehicle reached a top speed of 12 km / h.
